In the bright, colorful coral reef beneath the ocean waves, lived a young octopus named Inky. Inky was a cheerful little octopus who loved to count things with their arms.
Each day, as sunlight shimmered through the water, Inky would wiggle each of their eight arms with a big, happy grin. “One, two, three, four…” Inky would count, always eager to see what numbers came next.
Inky’s home was full of sparkling fish, swirling sand, and coral in every color. Bubbles floated up as little fish darted in and out of the coral, and Inky couldn’t wait to explore and count everything they found.
One sunny morning, Inky swam out to explore the reef. As they wiggled through the coral, Inky noticed their ocean friends looking a bit flustered. One by one, they swam over to ask for help.
First, a starfish swam up. “Inky, can you help me count my shells? I need five, but I keep losing track!” Inky smiled and held up one of their arms. “No problem! One, two, three, four, five!” said Inky, counting each shell.
Next, two hermit crabs scurried over. “Inky, we need help organizing our pebbles,” they said. Inky raised another arm and counted with a grin. One, two, three, four, five, six pebbles, all lined up!
Then a little sea horse came by with colorful bits of coral. “Can you help me sort these colors?” Inky was thrilled! “Of course!” They raised a third arm and counted as they helped. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven bright coral pieces.
Inky loved using each arm for a new task, helping their friends and counting each time with joy.
Soon, Inky noticed that each of their eight arms was busy helping a different friend! They couldn’t have been happier.
First, they counted with the starfish: One, two, three, four, five shells. Then, for the hermit crabs, they counted six smooth pebbles, one for each of their tiny homes. Next, the sea horse brought more coral to count — one, two, three, four, five, six, seven colorful pieces!
Inky’s fourth arm was busy with a jellyfish, counting bubbles as they floated up: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight! Inky’s other arms helped other ocean friends — a fish with stripes to count, a snail with spirals to trace, and a dolphin practicing jumps.
Counting to eight made Inky’s arms wiggle with excitement. They loved how each arm had a special job to do, and their friends’ smiles made them feel warm inside.
As the day ended, all of Inky’s ocean friends gathered around to thank them. “Thank you, Inky! You used all eight arms to help us!” they cheered.
Inky beamed with happiness. They counted each arm again, feeling proud: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight! Helping their friends and counting along the way was the best part of their day.
“Any time you need a helping arm, just ask!” Inky said with a happy wiggle. Their friends smiled and cheered, and the reef sparkled with joy.
