It was a rainy day. Little Lily wore her bright yellow boots. She looked out the window. The sky was gray. But the world was full of colors. Red flowers. Green leaves. Blue bird houses. Lily smiled. She loved rainy days.
Lily stepped outside. Raindrops fell on her nose. Plip, plop! She giggled. Then she saw something new. Round circles on the ground. Puddles! Big puddles and small puddles. Lily looked down. Her yellow boots smiled back at her. The puddles were like mirrors. She saw the sky in them too. Lily’s eyes got big. “Wow!” she said.
Lily couldn’t wait. She jumped into a puddle. Splash! Water flew up. It made a big sound. “Whoosh!” Lily laughed. She jumped again. And again. Each jump made a new splash. Lily saw colorful leaves floating by. Red ones, yellow ones, orange ones. They danced in the puddles. Lily danced too. Jump, splash, giggle. Jump, splash, giggle.
Lily looked around. She saw many puddles. Some were big like ponds. Others were small like coins. Lily found an oval puddle. Then a round one. Each puddle was special. In one, she saw fluffy clouds. In another, a red umbrella. Lily counted the puddles. “One, two, three!” She jumped in each one. Big splash! Little splash! Medium splash!
Suddenly, Lily heard a voice. “Hi Lily!” It was her friend Max. He had blue boots. “Can I play too?” Max asked. “Yes!” Lily smiled. They jumped together. Splash! Splash! Lily’s yellow boots and Max’s blue boots made pretty colors. They held hands and jumped. Big puddles made big splashes. Small puddles made small splashes. Lily and Max laughed and played. Puddle jumping was more fun with a friend.
The rain started to stop. Lily and Max looked up. A rainbow appeared in the sky. It had all the colors they saw in the puddles. Yellow like Lily’s boots. Blue like Max’s boots. And more! They smiled at each other. “Puddle jumping is fun!” Lily said. Max nodded. They loved their rainy day adventure. And they couldn’t wait for the next rain.
