Pitter-patter, pitter-patter. Rain fell on the window. Little Prickle the hedgehog looked outside. Everything was gray and dull.
“Oh no,” Prickle said. His quills drooped. “It’s all gray today!”
Mama Hedgehog came over. “What’s wrong, my little one?”
“I can’t play outside,” Prickle said. He pointed at the window.
Mama smiled. “Rainy days can be fun too. Let’s find something to do inside.”
Prickle nodded. But he still felt sad as he watched the gray clouds.

Prickle waddled around the house. He looked for things to do. Suddenly, he spotted something bright.
“What’s that?” he squeaked.
In the corner stood a big red umbrella. It was shaped like a dome.
“Red!” Prickle said. “That’s not gray at all!”
He kept looking. By the door, he saw yellow rainboots. They were shaped like cylinders.
“Yellow too!” Prickle giggled. He felt excited now.
On a round hook hung a blue raincoat. Its shape was like a long rectangle.
On the square windowsill sat a green plant. Its leaves were oval.
Prickle clapped his paws. “So many colors!”
Then he saw his toy box. Inside were purple blocks. They were stacked in a triangle.
“Wow!” Prickle said. “The rainy day isn’t boring anymore!”

Prickle had an idea. He gathered all the colorful things he found.
“Let’s make something special,” he said to himself.
First, he put down the red umbrella. Next to it, he placed the yellow boots.
Then came the green plant and the blue raincoat.
Last, he set down the purple blocks.
Prickle stepped back. His eyes grew wide with wonder.
“It’s a rainbow!” he shouted. “I made a rainbow indoors!”
The colors lined up just like in the sky. Red, yellow, green, blue, and purple.
Prickle danced around his creation. He felt proud and happy.
“Mama!” he called. “Come see what I made!”

Mama Hedgehog came to see Prickle’s rainbow. She clapped her paws.
“It’s beautiful!” she said. “You found so many colors!”
Just then, something changed. The room got brighter.
Prickle looked out the window. The rain had stopped!
“Look, Mama!” he squeaked. “The sun is out!”
They hurried outside. The grass was wet and sparkly.
Suddenly, Prickle gasped. In the sky was a big, beautiful rainbow.
“It’s just like mine!” he said, jumping up and down.
Mama smiled. “You brought the rainbow out, Prickle!”
Prickle felt happy. He had turned a gray day into a colorful adventure.
