Piper was a small, fluffy squirrel. She had bright eyes and a bushy tail. Today, Piper was very excited. Why? She was going on a picnic!
Piper packed her little basket with care. She put in nuts, berries, and seeds. Her tummy rumbled. She couldn’t wait to eat!
Piper skipped through the forest. The sun was warm. Birds sang in the trees.
She saw her friend Rabbit. “Hello, Rabbit!” Piper waved.
“Where are you going?” Rabbit asked.
“I’m having a picnic!” Piper said.
Piper kept walking. She passed Owl’s tree.
“Good day, Piper,” Owl hooted.
“Hi, Owl! I’m off to my favorite spot,” Piper replied.
The path was long. But Piper didn’t mind. She hummed a happy tune.
Flowers nodded in the breeze. Bees buzzed by. The forest was alive with sounds and colors.
Piper’s paws felt tired. But she was almost there!
Piper reached her favorite spot. It was a sunny clearing in the forest.
She spread out her picnic blanket. The grass was soft beneath it.
Piper opened her basket. The yummy smells made her mouth water.
Then she noticed something. Other animals were nearby. They looked hungry.
A mouse peeked from behind a flower. His tummy rumbled loudly.
A blue jay sat on a branch. He eyed Piper’s berries.
Even a tiny ant crawled closer to the picnic blanket.
Piper felt a funny feeling in her heart. She looked at her food. Then she looked at her hungry friends.
What should Piper do?
Piper looked at her tasty food. Her tummy growled. But her heart felt heavy.
She thought, “I have lots of food. My friends look so hungry.”
Piper made a big decision. She waved to the animals.
“Would you like to join my picnic?” she called out.
The animals looked surprised. Then they smiled.
“Really?” squeaked Mouse.
“You want to share?” chirped Blue Jay.
Piper nodded. “Yes! There’s enough for everyone.”
The ant did a happy dance. Mouse clapped his tiny paws.
Piper felt warm inside. She knew she made the right choice.
Everyone gathered on Piper’s blanket. They all sat in a circle.
Piper shared her yummy food. Mouse nibbled a nut. Blue Jay pecked at berries.
“This is delicious!” said Mouse.
“Thank you, Piper!” chirped Blue Jay.
They played fun games together. They rolled acorns and told jokes.
Ant taught them a new dance. They all wiggled and laughed.
Piper felt happy. She had made new friends.
The picnic was better than she imagined. Sharing made everything tastier.
As the sun began to set, their tummies were full. Their hearts were even fuller.
As the picnic ended, Piper felt very happy. She had shared and made new friends.
“Thank you, Piper,” everyone said.
Piper smiled. “Thank you for coming! Let’s have another picnic soon.”
They all hugged and said goodbye. Piper knew sharing was the best part of her day.
