Little Meera loved Diwali!

Mama hung bright lights all around their door. The hallway glowed with twinkling stars.

“Look, Mama!” Meera pointed at apartment 4B. “Someone new is moving in!”

A boy peeked out from behind a big box. Whoosh! He quickly ran back inside.

Ting-ting! went the pretty bangles. A nice lady in a blue saree carried boxes inside.

“That’s the Sharma family,” Mama smiled. “They came from very far away.”

Meera looked at their new neighbor’s door. It was the only door without any festive lights or decorations.

“Their door looks so dark,” Meera thought to herself.

The next day, Meera heard voices in the hallway.

“I’m sorry, Aarav,” said the lady in the blue saree. “Our Diwali box is still at our old home.”

“But Mama,” the little boy said softly, “how will we celebrate?”

Meera peeked through her door. The boy looked so sad.

She saw him touch the empty wall near his door. His eyes were big and shiny with tears.

“No diyas,” he whispered. “No lovely lights.”

Meera felt her heart go thump-thump. She wanted to help, but she felt shy.

She looked at her family’s box of extra decorations. It was full of sparkly lights and pretty diyas.

“Maybeโ€ฆ” she thought, hugging her favorite doll close.

Meera ran to her Papa. “Can we share our extra decorations?”

“What a kind thought!” Papa smiled big.

Mama helped Meera pack a special box. They filled it with:

Ding-dong! Meera pressed the doorbell at 4B.

“Hello!” Mrs. Sharma opened the door.

Aarav peeped out from behind his mama.

“Would you like to share our Diwali lights?” Meera asked softly.

Aarav’s eyes grew wide with joy. “Really?”

Friends share,” Meera smiled. “Happy Diwali!”

Both families worked together to make everything sparkle!

Meera showed Aarav how to place the golden diyas.

Aarav helped hang the twinkling lights.

Swish-swish! They made rangoli patterns with colored powder.

“Look at our doors!” Aarav clapped with joy.

“They’re like twin stars!” Meera giggled.

Their mamas shared sweet ladoos.

Their papas hung the last string of lights.

Happy Diwali!” everyone called out together.

Now Meera had something better than decorations.

She had a new best friend!
