Little Luna was so excited about lunch today! Her special lunchbox sparkled with silver stars.
“What would you like today?” asked Mama Hedgehog.
“My favorite sandwich, please!” Luna jumped up and down.
Swish, swish went the knife. Mama spread golden honey on soft bread.
Plop, plop went the juicy blackberries as they fell in place.
Luna’s nose twitched at the sweet smell. The stars on her lunchbox seemed to dance and twinkle.
“Ready for school!” Luna hugged her magical lunchbox tight.
At lunch, Luna saw something very sad.
A small squirrel named Oak sat all alone.
His tail drooped low. His whiskers pointed down.
Grumble, grumble went Oak’s empty tummy.
Luna held her special lunchbox close.
She looked at her sandwich, then at Oak.
The magic stars on her box shined extra bright.
Luna remembered her first day at school.
Being alone was no fun at all.
She looked at her favorite sandwich again.
Oak had nothing to eat.
Luna took a big brave breath.
“Hi Oak!” She walked to his table.
Oak looked up with wide eyes.
“Would you like to share my special lunch?”
“Really?” Oak’s whiskers twitched with joy.
Luna split her sandwich into two perfect pieces.
“I love blackberries!” Oak said with a happy smile.
“Me too!” Luna’s spikes wiggled with excitement.
They talked about their favorite things.
Oak loved to climb trees.
Luna loved to count stars.
The magical stars on Luna’s lunchbox twinkled brightly.
They had made a new friend!
The next day something wonderful happened!
Oak brought two special lunchboxes to school.
“One for you, Luna!” Oak held out a box.
It was green and sparkly with painted leaves.
More friends came to their table.
They all shared their yummy lunches.
Rabbit brought crunchy carrots.
Fox brought berry juice.
Beaver shared maple cookies.
Luna looked at her starry lunchbox.
It had helped her make a best friend!
Now lunchtime was the best part of school.
Because sharing made everything better!
Let’s talk about the story!
