Once upon a time, in a lush green forest, lived a cheerful squirrel named Nutkin. He made his home in a tall oak tree. One crisp autumn day, Nutkin spotted five acorns on the ground. The leaves rustled softly as a cool breeze swept through the woods.

Nutkin decided to collect acorns for winter. He scampered down the tree trunk.
“Time to count!” he chirped happily.
Nutkin picked up the first acorn. “One!” he said loudly.
He found a bumpy acorn next. “Two!” he counted.
A shiny acorn caught his eye. “Three!” Nutkin exclaimed.
He spotted a tiny acorn nearby. “Four!” he giggled.
Lastly, he grabbed a large acorn. “Five!” Nutkin cheered.
Each acorn was unique. Some were smooth, others rough. Nutkin admired their different shapes and sizes.

Suddenly, a strong wind blew through the forest. Whoosh!
The acorns scattered everywhere. Nutkin gasped in surprise.
“Oh no!” he squeaked. “I must find them all!”
Nutkin began his search. “Where are my five acorns?” he wondered.
He looked behind a rock. “Five!” he counted the first one.
Under a red leaf, he found another. “Four!”
Near a small puddle, he spotted the third. “Three!”
Behind a toadstool, the fourth appeared. “Two!”
Lastly, he found one in a small hole. “One!”
Nutkin sighed with relief. He had found all his acorns!

As Nutkin hugged his acorns, he heard friendly voices. His forest friends appeared!
Birdie chirped a hello. Hoppy the rabbit hopped over. Squeaky the mouse scurried up.
Nutkin had an idea. “Let’s share!” he said with a smile.
He gave one acorn to Birdie. “One for you,” he said.
Hoppy received two acorns. “Two for you,” Nutkin counted.
Squeaky got one acorn too. “One for you,” he added.
Nutkin kept the last acorn. “And one for me!” he laughed.
His friends were delighted. They all thanked Nutkin for his kindness.

As the sun set, Nutkin climbed back to his cozy tree home. He felt happy about his counting adventure and sharing with friends.
“Tomorrow, I’ll find more acorns to count!” he thought sleepily.
Nutkin curled up with his last acorn, dreaming of numbers and new forest fun.

Let’s talk about the story, my little adventurer!

- Nutkin loves to count things in the forest. Can you look around our room and count three things you see, just like Nutkin?
- What do you think Nutkin will dream about tonight, my little dreamer? Will he count sheep, or maybe acorns?
